South London alternative-jazz artist Oscar Jerome has announced his debut album with a ferociously experimental single ‘Your Saint’. The track delves wholeheartedly into afrobeat and jazz with Jerome’s recognisable drawl investigating a narrative defamation of the treatment of refugees by Western European, and traditionally Christian, countries. On the recording, he’s also joined by Sierra Leonean rapper and poet Brother Portrait, whose spoken word style is an unmissable addition, as well as members of the London afrobeat group Kokoroko. Oscar Jerome’s collaborative nature also seeps into the rest of the album, which calls on the talents of Lianne La Havas and friends in Sons of Kemet, Ezra Collective and Maisha, as well as recurrent appearances from fellow bandmates Kokoroko.
